The Breeding Season is Upon Us!
Here’s How to Prep!
Can everyone believe that the winter is nearing an end? The clock is ticking and here’s what we recommend you do for getting the season started right!
Look below for tips and ways to save time and money for the repro season this year.
General Tips
- Send Wyatt an email at info@over.net.au to get your first scans set, getting in early can help give you an indication of if your mare is still fully shutdown, transitional or cycling. It will give you a better inclination of when we will begin to work your mare up for her breed.
- Are you using an older mare for the first time in awhile or for the first time ever? Give a call or an email as we may recommend doing some testing prior to ensure that she is in good condition to breed with as well as able to carry a foal successfully to term. There is more cost for these services. However, it is significantly more expensive to do the breed, fail and test anyway and find out she was not suitable.
- If you have a specific budget in general regarding your mare(s) please send me an email and we’ll get an estimate sorted. We will do our best to account for most scenarios, allowing you to set money aside in time.
Friendly reminder for this season: each mare will need a $1,100 deposit upon admission (or prior) with balance paid upon discharge.
Doing Frozen Semen?
- My number one recommendation for Frozen Semen is BOOK YOUR SEMEN TO ARRIVE NOW! As we know, shipping is iffy at the best of times, the earlier the better.
- There is no charge for storage if the semen is used the season.
- If transferring large amounts for long-term storage, once you book semen, simply email me and if it is your first large storage with us, I’ll send you a contract.
Doing Chilled Semen?
- Most importantly, read your contracts and any stipulations that may increase costs if a re-breed is needed.
- If on a set budget and the stallion is not local, we advise getting estimates for the shipping as this is a large cost. Couriers, flights, and personal travel can cost significant time and money.
Doing Embryo Transfer?
- If you are planning on doing a large number of Embryo Transfers for the season, please email to reserve a large amount of recipient mares.
- If your mare is being bred at another facility but you are using our recipient mares, we also advise reserving a recipient mare. This service has a $1000 deposit (transferrable to recipient mare lease if a successful flush occurs, otherwise this cost is non-refundable).
Lastly, all of our pricing sheets are available upon request to help you with budgeting and planning.
We look forward to another successful breeding season with you!
